Continuing from my earlier post featuring Gwen Dickey and Odyssey, I now move to The TRAMMPS, a group I had wanted to meet for a very long time. I'd interviewed Robert Upchurch several times in the past, but this time I had the pleasure of meeting them and conducting a very brief pre-performance face to face interview with these legendary artists.
Being backstage is a fascinating place to people watch. Poignant and nostalgic being in the same terrain as those I grew up listening to and idolising. Whilst many obviously appeared tired, which was not surprising considering they had flown into the UK the day before and were likely still jet-lagged, there was a sense of expectancy, and lulled sense of excitement, a subtle anticipation. However, I still couldn't help wonder how would they perform. I watched as they mingled, shook hands, greeted each other, a coming together of seasoned legends from across the globe. A reunion of some of the world's greatest legends. Witnessing the transformation when their cue to go on stage was announced was truly remarkable. As they got dressed up, ready to hit that stage readiness to deliver, evoking the classic phrase 'it's showtime,' reminiscent of days gone by.
Pre-Show Picture:
Renowned as the most soulful group in the disco scene of the 70's, The TRAMMPS were truly remarkable. When they took to the stage, they transformed into seasoned legends, delivering their hits with synchronized moves that captivated the audience. I was impressed, as I was lured by their energy, and zest which invited me into a sense of nostalgia, flared trousers, afros, flashing lights and great dance moves. Their presence on stage exuded that good old time 70's disco vibe, their smiles saying it all. The TRAMMPS were in their essence giving the crowd some real 'soulfulness', showcasing them not only as artists but also as top-notch performers and entertainers. This American disco and soul band has been active since 1972, originating from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The current line-up includes Robert Upchurch, Jimmy Ellis, Van Fields and Brian. Their repertoire included covers like 'Hold Back the Night' and their chart-topping hit 'Disco Inferno.' I got caught up in the magic enjoying every song, watching the joy on their faces, listening to the roar of the crowd celebrate and honour them. 'Burn Baby Burn' I say, as the legacy of The TRAMMPS continues...
I had the pleasure of interviewing the group before they went on stage, watch below to see what they had to say:
